When should I write a will?

by Dennis Gardener

When you are over the age of 12 in Scotland.

OK so not many takers at that age although I do have two young clients that did just that, another story for another blog.

Anyway, a call from a young man of 19.  He had just moved into his first property, got his first mortgage and was revelling in that newfound freedom.

His parents were already my clients and he, on a prompt from them, called me to ask the question. A visit later and some advice and he could see that his flat, which the life insurance would pay off, his pension from work and his collection of DVD’s were worth a pretty penny.  A simple will leaving everything to those whom he cared about gave him the piece of mind and I will be back there for signing the week after next just as he requested, review it over the years at no charge and he’s one happy man.

So do you know anyone who really should have a will no matter how young?

At all times we felt completely at ease and able to ask questions as they arose. We were impressed at how quickly things fell into place as it is obviously a big subject. A very professional job! Thank you."
